Eid-ul-Azha in Pakistan to be celebrated on October 16


Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated in Pakistan on October 16 (Wednesday) "Zilhaj" moon was sighted in parts of the country, the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee said Sunday.

The moon was sighted in Quetta, some other parts of Balochistan and parts of Sindh.

The Zanal Moon Sighting Committee in Quetta announced sighting of the moon.

The Central Committee met with Chairman of the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee‚ Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman‚ in the chair.


The Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees were also met at their respective provincial headquarters.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had earlier predicted “Eid-ul-Azha” is likely to be celebrated in the country on October 16 (Wednesday) as there had been strong indications the Islamic month “Zilhajj” is likely to commence from Oct: 7.

Age of the new moon should be more than 26 hours and 40 minutes at the time of twilight for sighting new moon of Zilhajj whereas this time it is more than 35 hours throughout the country, the PMD officials said.
