Bomb attack on polio team near Peshawar kills six policemen, civilians



A bomb attack, targeting a police van guarding polio team, killed six people including four police personnel near Peshawar on Monday, police said.

Twelve people including policemen sustained injuries in the attack outside a health center at Badhaber in the outskirts of Peshawar.

A function to suggest measures against polio disease was going on when the blast occurred, police sources said.

They said preliminary investigation suggests the bomb exploded with the help of a remote-controlled device when a police van arrived at the site for protection of the function.

The injured were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar. Doctors confirmed 12 injured were shifted to the hospital.

No group claimed responsibility. Militants are blamed for attacks on polio teams.

Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif has strongly condemned the bomb blast in Peshawar targeting police officials, which resulted into the loss of precious human lives and injured several others.

The Prime Minister paid highest tributes the personnel of law enforcing agency who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
