Pervez Musharraf over the military raid on the Islamabad’s Red Mosque and a nearby religious school in 2007 which had killed nearly 90 students.
Musharraf was formally arrested in the case last week on a
petition by son of deputy prayer leader of the mosque, Abdul Rashid Ghazi who
was also killed in during the operation.
A court has granted two-week time to the police to
investigate the former President about the operation.
A team of police investigators visited Musharraf’s farmhouse
and interrogated him as to who had ordered the operation that had led to
bloodshed and had paralyzed the capital Islamabad for three days in July 2007.
Sources close to the investigators said that Musharraf told
the police that he had not issued any written or verbal order for the operation
and that then civilian leadership had decided the operation.
The former President also refused to accept any involvement
in the murder of the deputy chief of the Red Mosque.
Police sources said Musharraf’s statement will be made part
of the case and all documents will be presented to the court on October 18, the
date set for hearing of his bail application.
Musharraf has moved a bail application in the case. He has
already got bails in three important cases including the murder case of the
former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto who was killed in a suicide attack and
gunshots in December 2007.
Speculations had gripped the country of Musharraf is likely
to go abroad under a deal after he was granted bail in the murder caser of a
tribal elder, Nawab Akbar Bugti.
Interior Minister, Ch. Nisar Ali Khan, has denied any deal
and said on Sunday that Musharraf name is in the list of those people who
cannot leave the country.
He also said the government will complete interrogation of Musharraf
prior to the formal beginning of the high treason trial.
The government has assigned the Federal Investigation Agency
(FIA) to question Musharraf for abrogating of the Constitution.
