Speculations gripped Pakistan on Wednesday shortly after the
Supreme Court granted bail to former President Pervez Musharraf in the murder
of Baloch tribal elder, Nawab Akbar Bugti.
Bugti was killed in a military raid in 2006 in a cave he had
been hiding in Balochistan.
Musharraf was charged in the case and the Anti-Terrorism
Court and the Balochistan High Court had rejected his bail applications. Musharraf’s
lawyers had moved the apex court and a two-member bench granted bail to the
former military rule.
The bench while granted bail to Musharraf, observed that
substantial evidence was not available to implicate Musharraf in the criminal
conspiracy regarding Bugti’s murder.
Musharraf has already got bail in killing of former Prime
Minister, Benazir Bhutto and the judges detention cases and the bail in Bugti
case has now led to speculations that he may go out of Pakistan under a deal.
The former President still faces the high treason case as
the government has approached the Supreme Court to initiate the case. However, the
government is now quite on the issue.
Reports had earlier suggested that some friendly countries
are trying for a secret deal for Musharraf’s future like they had done in the
case of Nawaz Sharif, who now rule Pakistan.
Musharraf’s All Pakistan Muslim League described court’s
bail as a great news for the nation that their “most sincere, true and capable
leader is now amongst them and will be able to re-lead the nation to the glory
that he has achieved in his tenure.
“It is a day of the victory of the people of Pakistan, it is
a day where justice seems to be done, it is a day which may turn the fate of
the country to its great glory,” said Dr. Mohammad Amjad – the Secretary
General of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) during his address to a charged
gathering of APML supporter followed by press briefing at Central Secretariat.
He said Musharraf has proved to be a true patriotic who, came
back to his country and to his people despite the great risk of his life and
face the challenges created by the selfish politicians.
He also highly appreciated the dedication, motivation and
loyalty of APML sincere members who always stood sound and firm in all testing-times.
Dr. Amjad further, urged comrades to keep high their morals,
spirit and enthusiasm to meet the upcoming challenges to make Pakistan a truly
peaceful, progressive and prosperous place.
