Candidate of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) Monday
faced insulting defeat in by-elections in its stronghold of Faisalabad by
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf rival apparently to its poor performance in 100 days
of rule in the center and Punjab.
The seat was vacated due to fake degree of PML-N’s MPA
Khawaja Muhammad Islam.
According to unofficial results, Khurram Shahzad of PTI defeated
PML-N Khawaja Liaquat in PP-72 by-election.
Shahzad bagged a total of 23,973 votes counted, unofficial
results suggest, defeating Liaquat who could only get 17,626 votes.
Political leaders say it is the first PTI’s victory in the
PML-N’s stronghold where the ruling party has lost the seat that it has been
winning for last 20 years.
Imran Khan and other PTI leaders issued statements to
congratulate the party’s candidate which show the people confidence in the
party’s programme.
Khan will formally celebrate the victory on Tuesday with a
rally in Lahore.
In Faisalabad, PTI cheering supporters chanted slogans in
favour of Imran Khan and lashed out at the PML-N governments in the center and
Punjab.
The results show the people angrily reacted to the PML-N
policies as it has miserably failed to deliver anything to the poor and
increased prices of almost all essential items.
The 100 days of the PML-N are shocking for the people who
had voted for the party with a hope to give some relief to the people. However,
the situation is totally different.
Information and Finance Ministers are issuing statements
that ‘run salt on wounds’ of the poor and routinely come up with the any solid
argument.
The PML-N leadership had made tall claims during election campaign but nothing has been done for the welfare of the people.
The PML-N has the credit to increase petroleum prices four times in its four months of rule that led to hike in prices of almost everything.
